Cool Use For Siri on the iPhone

I have found a cool new feature on the iPhone following the software update last month. When Apple released the upgrade, they released a feature called “Hey Siri” that would listen for commands if the phone was connected to power. In “Hey Siri” mode, all you needed to do was to say “Hey Siri” and then follow it immediately with a question. Here is where things get really cool.

I charge my phone every night, with a charger on my bedside table. I am also somewhat short sighted and do not tend to wear a watch. When I wake up in the morning, not knowing what time it is, I used to grab the phone, and hold it up real close to my face and check the time. This often required a heap of effort, as I had just woken up.

Now, I do something different. I talk to Siri:

Hey, Siri. What time is it?

To which Siri will answer with words to the effect of:

It is 5:57am.

Occasionally Siri will editorialize and say something like:

It is 5:57am and it is still quite early.

“Hey Siri” can be activated by going to the Settings->General->Siri menu on the iPhone and turning on ‘Allow “Hey Siri”‘
