Saving Energy On Air Conditioners Through Small Changes

The concept is named after attacks in Sydney in the 1920’s, but in this case relates to reducing Government spending. The idea is that a Government would take the Razor Blade to spending, making a lot of small cuts, and some larger cuts, in order to make savings. The hope with the ‘Razor Gang’ was that each of the cuts would be so small an inconsequential that the voters would not really care, even if the nett result was rather significant reductions in Government Spending.

Redshift Wireless allows you to make similar changes to your heating and cooling, and even do this automatically. None of the changes we make to heating and cooling are significant, but they really add up. The way that we are able to do this is by replacing your Air Conditioner’s IR Remote Control with a unit that connects to the Internet via WiFi, putting the Air Conditioner onto the web. Because of the way that we do this, it does not even affect the warranty of the Air Conditioner in any way.

Just think about the following questions in relation to your business:

  • How many times have you come into work to find that the heating or cooling has been on overnight or over the weekend by mistake?
  • Do staff leave Air Conditioners on if they are going to be away from the office for a few hours, just so things will be OK when they return, thinking they are saving energy?
  • Do staff set the thermostat for 18C in Summer and 28C in Winter?
  • Do you even clean the filters on your Air Conditioner?
  • How often do remote controls get lost or stolen, or need new batteries?

Some of the ways we help you save energy include:

  • Making sure that all A/C units are turned off at the end of the day
  • Making it easy to adjust any schedules for changes in working patterns, like public holidays
  • Stopping inappropriate temperature and fan settings being used by staff
  • Permitting units to be turned on just before staff return rather than requiring units to be left on so conditions are acceptable when they return
  • Ensuring that you clean filters periodically

Each of these items will save a tiny bit of energy. Added up, they save a lot more. It has been said that increasing the thermostat in summer on an Air Conditioner by one degree can save up to 15% of your cooling costs. Similar savings are available by cleaning clogged filters.

Whilst our WiFi based Air Conditioner Control System will not suit every business, it will suit many. Our ideal customer is a business or school with at least five Air Conditioners with IR remote controls. Please contact us if that is you to see how we can help.air conditioning repair
